Lauryn has another ear infection and is on yet another antibiotic. Yuk. I just hate it for her...all the medicine and doctor visits to recheck those ears. She has had one after another, and so we have decided it's time to get tubes. I am a little anxious about the surgery, even though people I have talked to say it'll be just fine. Anyone out there have any words of encouragement that we are doing the right thing or any stories to share from your experiences? Thanks!
Also, we are going on a ski trip to Colorado at the end of February. We are very excited! My question to you all is this....anyone out there who has traveled with your child have any special pointers for keeping them happy and occupied? Also, has anyone ever seen or maybe you have a travel-car seat that somehow turns into a stroller?? Ok, I know that sounds weird. I have only seen what I am talking about in an airport, so I have never known where you get one of those....or wonder if you could rent one? Hmmmm, that's a thought. I would love anyone's feedback on this! Thanks again!

Hey Brooke,
I know what you mean about the ear infections. Both of my boys have yet another ear infection. This makes 3 a piece in a month and a half. We are putting tubes in both their ears (the second time for Cooper). I really thought that it was going to be an awful experience, but honestly if was not that bad. I of course cried when they took Cooper away from me but he was back in like 10 minutes. The doctor was finished in about 3-4 minutes and they just had to move him to recovery and get his vitals before they would let me go back with him. I know it sounds crazy, but I highly reccommend doing the tubes if she has had lots of ear infections! Cooper never had one just until recently and that is b/c his tubes fell out (they are supposed too). Anyways good luck with the ears/tubes!
Oh, they do make a car seat/stroller from One Step Ahead. Just look in the magazine and you should find it! Have fun!
Hey Brooke!
We just flew to Mexico with Mc and it wasn't bad at all. She did great on both flights. We just took a portable DVD and she watched vegetales videos and napped. I also took a small bag of new small toys and books she had never seen before and that helped a lot in the airports and stuff. She did come home with double ear infections though. I hate to tell you that, but I've heard flying really causes them and she had two the day after we got back.
On the travel carseat, I have one, but it isn't a stroller. It just folds really flat and is good for packing in a carry-on. If you are interested, I can find it and send you a picture of it and see if it is what you are looking for.

Jenn is right! From the nurses stand point who works in the dept where your daughter would start out it is really not that bad. They only give 'gas' and the procedure is no more than 10 min. and into recovery room, should be no IV's, no Pain for her. Find out what the policies are at the hospital that you are going to go to on parents in the recovery room- at StoneCrest parents are not aloud in the recovery room unless the child is unable to be comforted. But your daughter will be with a nurse one on one for the 15-30 min that she is in there. Back to you hopefully smiling!!!
Ask your ENT on his discharge policy from the Same Day Dept, does he keep the kids for any observation after the procedure or just what is 'normal' protocol for that department (vital signs, discharge instructions, etc)
On flying, we just got home from a fast weekend with both of the kids, we rented car seats for the car rental place, toddler and infant, saved us a lot of 'baggage' and we used our stroller the rest of the time for travel. Dayne is almost 3 and the whole idea of flying was awesome to him. We brought tons of his small toys and a dvd player with a a couple of movies for him. His uncle is a pilot so he was thrilled to think he was on his uncles plane (he wasn't, but it was the thought), with Tallan who is almost 7 months we gave him his recommended dose of Benadryl and a bottle and he slept. It is not mean but it helps!! Oh make sure you bring her cup and buy juice or water or whatever she drinks inside the airport so during takeoff and touchdown if she needs alittle 'ear' help. Dayne did great!!! Even people on the plane where impressed with him. He is just coming off of an ear infection and the plane did not bother him. Just please read the website for the airline that you are planning on flying b/c standards change every week.
Sorry that was too much info.
Have a great trip!
My daughter, who is now almost 7, got tubes put in when she was 22 months old. She had maybe three ear infections after that until just last year. It was great for us.
Hey Brooke, I didn't have your email address, so you can see the seat here:

I'm not sure how secure it is. It was better than nothing b/c we were in Mexico, but if you can rent from the car rental companies like the person above said, it might be safer.
Brody just went back to the dr. today for his 4th ear infection since Nov. We're headed back to the ENT next week and are hoping he will agree that it's time to do tubes again. He also had tubes when he was about 18 months old. It's no big deal- a very quick & easy procedure. Is your ENT Dr. Mowery? My only suggestions is not to allow the nurses to give Lauryn Versed (sp?) which is medicine that they give some kids to help them remain calm when they take them back to the OR. They don't really need it & a lot of times it makes them irritable, fussy or crazy when they wake up after the procedure. Oh- and at Centennial they brought Brody to us as soon as he started waking up. Have fun in Colorado!
Sorry to hear about the tubes. I've heard that it's an easy quick procedure, but I know when it's your baby it's never easy! We'll be praying for her (and you!).
Lawton had tubes put in December (06) and did great during and after the surgery. It was a breeze! He did have three ear infections last February/March that oozed out (but I don't think they were as nearly as painful as before). He has only been back to the doctor once since his well check-up since April, so maybe we are officially "over the hump"! Good luck with the tubes and with flying!
Hey Brooke. We've been on a couple of plane rides with Ethan. They were both fine, but he did require alot of attention. We were thinking about taking E to Europe, so I did some recent research & found a great idea...
Bring some new toys, keep them in packaging that can be opened on the plane (buys some more time,) wrap them all up like presents, and space them out on the plane. We brought some toys, but I hadn't thought to wrap them up! That would have bought us some extra time!
Have Fun!
